Have you ever heard of Schoolies Week? If not, that’s alright, because I hadn’t been made aware of it either until recently. Most of us when we graduate High School, we have a graduation party; invite a few of our friends, and family, to share in our achievement. However, in Australia, it is a weeklong graduation festival. It takes place around mid November through mid December. There are many destinations throughout Australia where this Schoolies Week takes place.
Every year thousands of High School Graduates travel from all around Australia, as well as New Zealand, to take part in this celebration. This would be the first real holiday these students, experience without being accompanied by their family. Their first real adult vacation, you might say. It gives them an opportunity, to really let go, and just have fun. This is s chance for them to truly be themselves and meet people who share the same interests as they do. These High School Graduates are able to take part in group activities, and make decisions for themselves while enjoying the company of their peers. Instead of relying on their families to make their decisions for them, they are allowed a week to see just what adulthood is all about. However, we all know how dangerous, turning a teenager loose on their own can be. Therefore, many of the Schoolies destinations have qualified licensed security guards on the Schoolies properties. They are also given photo id and building passes, supervised no alcohol Schoolies, only dance parties, and a 24 help line throughout the Schoolies month.
There are many locations to choose from when considering Schoolies Week. One of the more popular one’s is Airlie Beach. Airlie Beach is a vibrant and gorgeous town, filled with beautiful beaches, waterfront parks, and fine dining. There is a thriving liveliness, nightclubs, and bars, where travelers party together, well into the night. It is irresistible, and people usually stay longer than intended. Another good Schoolies spot is Magnetic Island. This place is truly inspiring, with its secluded beaches, and miles of scenic walking trails. They have live music on a nightly basis, and millions of wonderful activities to take part in. Noosa is another lovely choice. Noosa is one of Australia’s most beautiful destinations. It has wonderful café’s and boutiques to choose from. Be sure to visit Noosa National Park, witness the untouched beauty and breathtaking wildlife up close, on one of the Freedom Wheels Motorcycle Tours. Coolum is a thrill seekers paradise, with magnificent waves surrounded by blue waters, and an amazing skate ramp. Lay back, ride the waves, and just enjoy yourself. Lorne is also a good choice. Here you can golf, BBQ outside, and just breathe the fresh air, and take in the beauty that is all around you.
Schoolies Week is something I would love for my child to experience. Turn them loose, and let them enjoy themselves before they have to face all of life’s pressures and responsibilities that come along with being an adult.
