Situated in the Gulf of Thailand, the island of Phu Quoc is a Vietnamese gem. It is responsible for attracting many thousands of tourists to the island and southern region of Vietnam, and is bursting with natural attractions and landscapes. It is quite large, but the island is more renowned for its densely covered jungle and mountainous middle.
Flying to the island is recommended for travellers not interested in penny saving. However, the flights aren’t that expensive anyway. A Phu Quoc hotel is generally convenient and close to a beach. However, regardless of the time of year tourists reach the island, accommodation bookings are recommended.
Shopping - there is a market place, or night bazaar, in the township of Duong Dong. Here, tourists can find handicrafts to purchase for loved ones, and a range of eating options. However, the most popular shopping item on the island is certainly its pearls.
Beaches – the beaches on the island of Phu Quoc are phenomenal. Some are quite busy at times, such as Long Beach, but others are quite secluded, giving tourists their own private stretch of sand. One of the most beautiful secluded beaches is found at Bai Dai.
Scuba diving – for a taste of the underwater life, tourists can jump on one of the many scuba diving tours found on the island. Most tourists spend a day or two scuba diving and snorkeling, and are never disappointed. Some times of the year are not overly suited to scuba diving or snorkeling, but other times visitors will find perfect spots to explore the marine world.
Motorcycle Tours - forget sitting in a hot van or car for a tour around the island. There is no better way to see the beauty of this destination than by motorcycle. Visitors can rent motorbikes for a very small amount each day, and the longer tourists want them, the cheaper they become. Some roads are very rough and not well maintained, but locals are always willing to help a tourist.
Squid Fishing – yes…there is actual squid fishing at the island of Phu Quoc. Most resorts and hotels can arrange for guests to try their hand at squid fishing in the waters off the island. It is actually one of the most interesting and exciting activities tourists can find on the island, so why not give it a go. Fees are not overly expensive, and daily trips are available.
Sunsets – visitors can find pleasure and relaxation in this activity. Sit by the shoreline at a restaurant or café, and view the magnificent sunset that can be seen from most areas of the island.
Suoi Da Ban – this beautiful piece of Phu Quoc is a stream offering wonderful swimming spots for tourists. Without a doubt, this would have to be one of the most pristine spots on the island. Be ready to spray the mosquito repellent in the afternoon period, as the mosquitoes seem to come out at this time.
Phu Quoc National Park – consisting of both land and marine areas, the national park on the island of Phu Quoc is home to some unique and breathtaking landscapes that should be explored. Van tours of the park can be organised from most resorts on the island. See the rainforest, climb the interior mountains, and views the stunning shoreline of the park.
Eating – there are some wonderful restaurants located on the island of Phu Quoc. These dining establishments are not like the ones visitors find at home. Offering mostly seafood, the restaurants can be find along the roadside, in the towns, along streams, and also on beaches, close to the rolling surf of the coastline.
