First you have scooters: hip, young Italians barreling through narrow cobblestone streets, missing pedestrians and buildings by a hair. Then you have motorcycles: pot-bellied men zipping down the highway in roaring, mufflerless packs, looking for danger or an answer to their mid-life crisis.
It’s quite clear that motorcycles and scooters evoke very different images and attract very different crowds. Beards and bandannas don’t tend to go along with Vespas and cappuccinos.
As a potential scooter buyer, you could care less about debauching your way across the country à la Easy Rider. But as you watch hulking Harleys shoot down the highway, you may feel a lingering insecurity in the back of your head.
You see, for two-wheeled vehicles, size certainly matters…er, engine size, that is. Scooter engines don’t exceed 250cc, which is not fit for frequent, long-term highway driving. A scooter on the highway is like a fish out of water.
And this is where the maxiscoot comes in. If you want the rush of two-wheel riding on the highway, but loath the idea of owning a motorcycle, the maxiscoot is the perfect solution. With engine sizes that go all the way up to 800cc, maxiscoots are like regular scooters on steroids.
Maxiscoots can keep up with any touring motorcycle and have many interesting advantages over their larger brethren. Like all scooters, maxiscoots are much easier to mount and dismount, since you are dealing with a step-through frame. All maxiscoots have automatic transmissions, which is a relatively rare feature in motorcycles. Maxiscoots are also lighter and more agile.
And to top it off, maxiscoots are much less expensive. In addition to a significantly lower upfront cost, maxiscoots get better gas mileage and tend to require less maintenance.
Are you beginning to wonder why anyone would buy a motorcycle over a scooter? Well, with their sturdy, bulky frame, motorcycles are much better for riding with a partner. So if you’re into biker babes, you might not want to go with a maxiscoot.
And of course, there’s the lifestyle factor. There are motorcycle people and there are scooter people. For you, buying a maxiscoot is a smart, economical decision. For a member of Hell’s Angels, buying a maxiscoot is verging on suicidal.
Maxiscoots are the perfect solution for someone who wants the scooter aesthetic and lifestyle, along with long-range driving capabilities. You might pay more for the extra engine power, but that lingering insecurity towards motorcyclists will vanish.
