Motorcycles For the Long Haul

If you ever thought it would be fun to ride a motorcycle from Virginia to Boston then someone must have slipped you something good in your drink. Of course, we are talking about a ride that takes at least twelve to thirteen hours one way and that is if you do not get lost. Having insurance is very important on this trip because you want to make sure you are covered in case you are in an accident. You also want to make sure you have some type of insurance coverage if you need a rental car or hotel fees if something else happens to you on the road.

The next thing you hope for is nice weather because it can be pretty miserable if it rains the whole way. Plus it slows down the trip because you cannot drive as fast…as fast as the speed limit. This adds more time onto the trip. Well it was a nice fall day and my brother-in-law after making a motorcycle trip to the mountains. This meant he had already driven fifteen hundred miles in a week had decided not to wait another two days to go home. He hit the road the next day. The first mistake he made was he took a wrong turn after getting off the bridge and was heading into Maryland. He realized it an hour later. There was not a way to get around it but to back track.

I would have turned around and headed back to Virginia because it was closer. No, he decided to go on to Boston. Besides, it was only ten o’clock in the morning and he could be home by ten that evening right? Auto insurance has another feature which is you can request trip maps from some places. This would be something to check out with your insurance company. Of course, now we have all kinds of gadgets that tell us how to get someplace. It was a neat feature when we were younger to get a route all mapped out for you.

Before midnight that day he did reach home and other than getting lost in the beginning his trip was uneventful, we were thankful especially for him being on a motorcycle and driving alone. He was not able to sit for a little bit and it will be a while before he makes the trip again. Actually, it is becoming an annual trip in late September so they are starting to talk about it now. For anyone who is interested in knowing what kind of bike he made the trip on it was not a touring bike it was a 500cc. Yeah, that was bold, but he had all the right gear and he was insured.
