An ideal destination for short adventures is the Can Gio Island, located approximately 20 miles from Ho Chi Minh City, the largest city in Vietnam. An island of 1000 monkeys and a natural bird sanctuary occupying over 100 hectares of the beautiful landscape of Dam Roi is certain to enthrall all visitors. In addition, 2003 marked the recognition of another magnificent forest in the locale by the World Tourist Organization. This forest, known as Vam Sat salt-marsh forest, includes a crocodile farm and a natural pool as its main attractions. The salt concentration of the pool is 10 times higher than the ocean, thus reducing all risk of drowning. Furthermore, visitors to the island will have the added opportunity to taste the native specialties of crab, shellfish, shrimp and cuttlefish which are prepared in the traditional way.
